Taking the first step into therapy can be daunting, but you don’t have to do it alone. I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to answer any questions you may have and see if I’m the right therapist for you. No matter what you’re going through, I can provide you with the time and space to explore your experiences and work towards the future you deserve.

My Services

Using evidence-based therapies such as CBT and EMDR, we will work together to understand how your difficulties began and why they continue, supporting you in achieving your goals for a brighter future. I offer face-to-face appointments from my therapy space in Newport Pagnell, near Milton Keynes as well as online and remote options to accommodate your needs. I offer supervision to both Low Intensity and High Intensity CBT Therapists.

CBT

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or CBT, is a family of talking therapies, all based on the idea that thoughts, feelings, what we do, and how our bodies feel, are all connected. If we change one of these we can alter all the others.

When we’re low or upset, we often fall into patterns of thinking and responding which can worsen how we feel. CBT works to help us notice and change problematic thinking styles or behaviour patterns so we can feel better.

CBT is a collaborative therapy - it’s not something that is done to someone, it’s a way of working together with a CBT therapist on mutually agreed goals.

What can CBT help with?

CBT works for lots of different people and problems, and is widely recommended by national treatment guidelines across the UK, EU and North America.

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) provides independent, evidence-based guidance for the NHS on the most effective, proven treatments. CBT is recommended in NICE guidelines for many different problems, including:
- anxiety disorders (including panic attacks)
- depression
- obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
- post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- psychosis and schizophrenia
- bipolar disorder
- eating disorders
- tinnitus
- insomnia

There is also good evidence that CBT is helpful in helping people cope with the symptoms of many other conditions, including:
- chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS)
- irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
- fibromyalgia
- chronic pain

EMDR

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing. It is a unique, powerful therapy that helps people recover from problems triggered by traumatic events in their lives. It stops difficult memories causing so much distress by helping the brain to reprocess them properly, working with memory to heal the legacy of past pain.

When a person’s mental health problems have their roots in a distressing life event, EMDR can be very effective very quickly.

What can EMDR help with?

Best known for treating PTSD, studies have shown that EMDR can significantly decrease PTSD symptoms like flashbacks, upsetting thoughts or images in just two or three sessions. Thus helping people rapidly recover from distressing events and the problems they have caused, with long lasting effect.

EMDR can also help treat a variety of mental health conditions in people of all ages. These conditions  include depression and anxiety, especially where a difficult life event has been involved. EMDR can be useful for people who have witnessed or experienced an event like a car accident, a violent crime, sexual or emotional abuse, bullying, a social humiliation or the sudden loss of a loved one, and are struggling to recover.

Internationally recognised, EMDR therapy is endorsed by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence; the World Health Organisation; The International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies; the NHS (in the UK); and many other bodies.
